Today was the 2017 annual general meeting of SHARE. Martin completed a great presentation discussing events that had happened this year such as the European Conference, our visit to Dacia and time spent with LoveLight Romania.
We reminisced about our summer spent with the children and look forward to next year!
In 1996 a Cross of Nails was presented to the SHARE project by Coventry Cathedral in acknowledgement that our work in the areas of health, the family and with churches of many denominations was being undertaken in the spirit of the Cathedral’s ministry of reconciliation supported by members of the Cathedral congregation.
That cross was held originally in the SHARE house at Cisnadioara. In 2006 the cross was re-dedicated and presented to the Ecumenical Institute that is affiliated to the University of Sibiu. Today it is cared for by the prayer group Ora et Labora (Work and Prayer) that was established by Erika Klemm and the cross of nails stands on the altar of St John’s Chapel which is close by the Institute.
There are more than 200 organisations across the world that belong to the Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN), and in July 2017 for the first time the East European members of the CCN held their conference in Sibiu. At the invitation of the current Lutheran Bishop Guib they met in the Diocesan Building on the Great Square, Sibiu. Members came from different parts of Poland, Belarus, Georgia, Germany, the
United Kingdom and Romania.
The conference also found time to celebrate the many years that Ora et Labora has been responsible for the cross of nails. SHARE was represented by Martin and Jane Williams and the Revs Geoff and Gill Kimber, who all gave presentations about the work carried out in our name. You may recall that the Kimbers were sponsored by Church Mission (formerly CMS) and for 5 years they worked closely and taught with the church groups around Sibiu, and later in Alba Iulia. Rev Canon Sarah Hills represented Coventry Cathedral.

The celebrations were attended by Bishop Guib and also by the previous bishop, Bishop Christopher Klein, who with the late Bishop Colin Bennetts from Coventry and the Sibiu Metropolitan Bishop was present in 2006 when the cross was re-dedicated. Both bishops addressed the gathering and included words of praise and encouragement for the
work carried out by SHARE.

This summer symbols were introduced to support the children’s communication and to develop their understanding and use of language. Symbols were “modelled” or taught by showing the children the symbol with the spoken word.
Next month s short reflective piece will be published in the Communication Support World Network (CWSN) newsletter.
Keep your eyes peeled!

The annual general meeting and Romania lunch are coming up!
The therapy volunteers of 2017 have written a brilliant blog of their summer working within the centre.
Read below their blog of the summer, the rest are available at https://biancaprojectsibiu2017.wordpress.com
A special thanks to Jo, Nicky, Chloe and Emma for sharing your experiences!
Today was our last day with the children from the centre. We all made sure today was full of smiles and cuddles for the children and made sure we had all their favourite toys out to play with.
For lunch, we treated the kids and carers to pizza, custard pots and chocolate biscuits. My house loved the treats and there were lots of smiles and excited noises around the table! I imagine there’ll be some full stomachs at the centre this afternoon!
Saying goodbye was hard but as we walked around each of the houses to see the children there was a calm, happy atmposhere and the carers seemed sad to see us go, giving us lots of hugs and thank you’s. This is something I wouldn’t have expected walking into the centre a month ago and I feel so pleased we’ve managed to build a brilliant rapport with the carers, gaining their trust to look after the children. We will miss the kids lots but we have lots of amazing memories of them all to think back on.
A memory I’ll treasure from today is saying goodbye to a boy in my house when he was getting into bed for his afternoon nap. I walked in to say goodbye and he pulled me over to sit next to him on the bed. He pushed me over so I was lying down and then covered me in the duvet and started to take my shoes off… I wish I could have stayed for a sleepover!
Thank you so much to Jane and Martin for making the Bianca Project happen and for all the hard work they do for keeping it going. And also a big thank you to the supervisors we’ve had over the past four weeks – Sarah, Lawrence, Lindsay and Sam!
Multumesc and La Revedere Romania…. see you in 2018!

Journey to Jim’s House
Hai sa mergem impreuna in Romania! Travel together to Romania!
The weather is getting better, exercise helps us feel better, and what could be more rewarding than helping some incredibly special young people Alex, Iount and Bianca in Jim’s House, Igishi Nou, Romania.
Jim’s House was established in 2019 so that three young people, Alex Bianca and Ionut could live there instead of being moved to an Adult Institution. None of us who knew them and what it was like in an adult institution could bear the thought of them going there. The cost of their care to SHARE is £2000 a month. A large amount to find and sustain into the future.
Normally during the months from June to August we support therapy volunteers to work in Sibiu, Romania, but this year we invite you to travel with us on a sponsored virtual journey of 1560 miles to Romania and back to help those three young people.
The journey will begin on 26th June and for those of us who can make it will start with a photo taken on the steps at Coventry Cathedral at 12 midday and will end on 31st August back at the Cathedral.
For the journey you can include any form of exercise or combine walking, running, jogging, cycling, swimming, golfing, exercise bike or treadmill and why not include pushing the pram, walking the kids to school, and taking the dog out. Do what you want for as long as you want – the miles will all add up in our ultra-inclusive event!
For further information see our FAQs attachment.
Can you also be a Travel Agent by telling your family, friends, and colleagues and encouraging them to have a go? The attached poster maybe helpful.
The goal is to raise at least £3,120 – (a pound a mile) and so we need as many travelers as possible.
It may take a while but hopefully we can do it.
